Exploring Ontario: Relax & Rejuvenate At The Liberty Inn Nordic Spa Hotel – Caledon’s Hidden Gem

It’s been a busy 2025 for us because we’ve been downsizing – again to simplify our lives and hopefully give us the chance to travel a bit more. As a result, we haven’t been venturing far, sticking mostly to local spots. Then, out of the blue, we received an invitation to experience The Liberty Inn Nordic Spa Hotel in Caledon!

Perfect timing – an overnight getaway of relaxation in a beautiful setting sounded like the perfect tonic to recharge before winter sets in!

So where is Caledon?
Located about an hour from Toronto (90 mins for us in Niagara), it’s a hilly haven of trails and villages and parks. There’s so much to do in the area we’ll include it in separate articles to give you an idea of just how great this area is.

We’d actually been up that way a couple of years ago when we went to a spa for the day at Millcroft Inn & Spa and it just happens to be about 8 minutes from The Liberty Inn. That visit was lovely, but the Liberty Inn Nordic Spa offers a very different personal and private experience.

What I A “Nordic Spa”?

Rooted in ancient Scandinavian traditions, they typically feature a cycle of hot treatments (saunas, hot tubs), cold plunges, followed by rest periods to rejuvenate the body and calm the mind. Exposing your body to these temperature extremes can release endorphins, soothe sore muscles, and even support immune function.

The Liberty Inn Nordic Spa is unique – it’s a private, intimate oasis. When you book a 50-minute session, you get exclusive access to the spa area, meaning total privacy, bliss and relaxation without anyone else in the spa area.

~ The Liberty Inn Nordic Spa Hotel ~
The Liberty Inn is a re-imagined bed and breakfast within a thoughtfully restored 1855 stone building. The boutique inn blends the intimacy of a classic B&B with absolute luxury of a 5-star hotel, about an hour from Toronto.

Guests enjoy direct access to the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park and the Elora Cataract Trailway, with trailheads just across the street. Hiking, fly fishing, cycling, and waterfalls are all minutes away.

Check-in is easy and contactless, with codes provided by email for parking and your suite. Upon arrival, one of the owners – Jose, greeted us and guided us to our suite – a personal touch that makes the experience feel special.

After checking in, we headed into the grounds and enjoyed some time relaxing in the chairs before a trip across the street and into the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. We walked a section of the Meadow Trail before our spa slot – an easy trek to a waterfall and a couple of bridges. It was a pleasant, relaxing walk in nature – perfect preparation for relaxing in the spa.

Our Suite – Hawthorne (Suite No. 1)
We were booked into Suite No. 1 – Hawthorne – located in the innkeeper’s house, a private residence added to the property in the 1970’s. Tucked slightly apart from the original limestone inn, it offers a sense of privacy while still feeling deeply connected to the property. Spread over two floors with upper and lower balconies, it includes a full kitchen, a powder room, and a cozy living area on the ground floor, along with a washer and dryer.

In the fridge was an unexpected surprise – two cans of non-alcoholic fizzy drink/tea from the local GoodLot Brewing Co. and they were delicious. GoodLot Brewing is located just around the corner from the Inn and we were planning on going round to check them out, but alas – they weren’t open the days we were there.

Breakfast options included fresh eggs, butter, jam and bake-your-own croissants for breakfast along with multiple options for how you want/like your coffee.

Upstairs, two comfortable rooms, a shared bathroom with heated floors, and an infrared sauna provided the ultimate in relaxation. The king-size beds were incredibly comfortable, we slept soundly – it was a good thing we’d set an alarm to get up in the morning!!

The Spa Experience
With only five suites and five daily time slots (3 pm–8 pm), everyone who wishes to book can do so. We booked 7 pm–8 pm.

A Nordic Spa is simple: hot, cold, rest, repeat. Sauna or hot tub, cold plunge, relax. It’s meant to wake the body up and calm the mind. At Liberty Inn the spa is yours alone – and that’s the best part – total solitude.

Entering the building in the corner of the property, you have the opportunity of getting a drink, donning some sandals and grabbing a towel before heading into the private spa area. Most guests wear their robes to the spa area. The area features a cedar hot tub, Finnish sauna, and cold plunge tub as well as a fireplace and chairs to relax in between body-shock sessions.

We did Finnish sauna → hot tub (perfect temperature) → quick hand in the cold tub (brrr way too cold for me) → hot tub again. Relax by the fire. Repeat. After another couple of visits between the sauna, hot tub and relaxing, time was up. Fifty minutes seems like a short period, but it’s actually just the perfect amount of time.

Note: The 50-minute sessions are not included with your hotel stay – the spa is booked for $45/hour for the whole group (up to 5 people).  $45 per hour on the same reservation. If the inn is not fully booked during your stay, you may be able to extend your spa session at no extra charge. Just text them to check availability.

After Spa – Relaxed To The Max
After the spa, we returned to our suite for a fabulous rain-shower, followed by a full infrared sauna session, rounding out a truly restorative evening. We settled into the very comfy couch that’s perfect for relaxing and watching TV. We did something we’d not done in a while – played a board game… and played a record on a turntable!

The Inn – Guest Suites & Amenities
The kitchen backsplash, powder room tile, and ceramic pendant above the dining table were all hand-made in their nearby ceramics studio, as was the stoneware throughout the suite – the mugs, plates and bowls are all hand-crafted.

Final Thoughts…
One night and we felt brand new. Our stay at The Liberty Inn was restorative, luxurious, and deeply enjoyable. The owners have clearly invested thought and care into every detail, from the suites to the spa. The amenities are first-class – as is the attention to the smallest of details.

The location is perfect – especially if you plan on visiting the Canadian Open in 2026 – the golf course is just 6 minutes away!! TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is home to three of Canada’s Top 25 golf courses. We saw at least two additional golf courses on our travels around the area.

If you are an avid hiker, there are numerous conservation parks and trails surrounding the inn and in the Caledon region – including the Bruce Trail.

Be sure to check out our articles on things to do in the area for more ideas…
