Transport Canada Amends Prohibited Items List For Air Passengers

OTTAWA, Nov. 6, 2017 /CNW/ – Adjustments to screening procedures are necessary from time to time to reflect changes in the security environment and to harmonize with international standards and partner countries. Transport Canada is amending its Prohibited Items List for passengers on all domestic and international flights. Effective November 27, 2017, Transport Canada will prohibit certain powders and granular material with a volume of 350 ml (the size of a soda can) or more at all screening checkpoints in Canada.

Every now and then we direct our readers to a service or product that we think is valuable, and in most cases we’ve used it ourselves – so therefore recommend it. We don’t receive money or discounts/kickbacks for these articles – we just want to showcase a product/service that we feel is worth drawing attention to. This week we’re looking at Amazon – a webstore that needs no introduction or help in getting their name out there. However it is our favourite store and we’ve spent more and more money there over the past few years, but one question we’ve always had is: How does Amazon do it with all that free shipping (Prime or otherwise)? Barbados Left Unaffected By Hurricanes, But Confusion Is Impacting Its Tourism

Barbados has not been hit by a hurricane since 1955 and has not been affected by either of the recent mega-storms, Irma and Maria but it is still suffering from their impact. According to Petra Roach, director, USA for the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., confusion with the island of Barbuda, and general lack of knowledge about Caribbean geography, has had an impact on its tourism outlook. “We are totally empathetic with the victims of these storms and are very proud to be part of the Caribbean region,” Roach told TMR, “but travel agents should recognize that we are not in the hurricane belt.”

Race To The Bottom – Canada’s WestJet Launches Ultra-Discount Airline Swoop

Formerly low-cost carrier WestJet, is set to launch an All-New “ultra-low-cost airline” called Swoop in June of 2018. “The name Swoop denotes exactly what we plan to do,” said Bob Cummings WestJet executive vice-president, strategy and the executive member responsible for the launch of Swoop. “It’s a powerful verb that demonstrates we plan to swoop in to the Canadian market with a new business model that will provide lower fares and greater opportunity for more Canadians to travel.”
