U.S. Residents Have New Baggage & ID Requirements In Order To Fly Starting in May 2025

We’ve already covered the new travel restrictions/requirements if you’re heading to Europe and the UK this year (link below), but the USA have also strengthened their domestic travel requirements – and not just for flying either. Here is a breakdown of some of the new requirements for U.S. Residents. The most important one is REAL ID that starts May 7, 2025. According to TSA, the new travel requirement will be strictly enforced.

From our base just outside of Speyer/Hockenheim in Germany, we do day trips that are easy to get to and worth the journey and fuel to visit. This trip to (Schloss) Drachenburg Castle / Drachenfels Castle / Drachenfelsbahn was over-ambitious at first because there were so many things to see on the way there – it actually would have been a weekend trip instead of just one day.

Germany: A Day Trip To Heppenheimer & Michelstadt

During our most recent trip to Germany, we went there with only one thing in mind – relax, no crazy driving all over the country to see the sights. This was our “visit friends tour and chill trip.” But we HAD to see a couple of towns – it just wouldn’t be a trip without that! So, we agreed that we’d only do our “towning” on one day. With that in mind, off we went to Heppenheimer (birthplace of F1 driver Sebastien Vettal) and Michelstadt which is just up the road… sort of.

Living in Ontario for us is somewhat dull – we’d rather be off travelling around Europe or the Caribbean, but millions of people from around the world come to Canada and Ontario specifically for their holidays or vacation time. We don’t understand it, but people we talk to in other countries don’t understand why we go to their country for a holiday! Since we’re not flying anywhere anytime soon, we’re focusing on travelling closer to home by car for the time being – re-discovering home if you will.
